Croatian politicians receive 1,500 euro pension ? average pension less than 400 euro

Former members of parliament, ministers and constitutional judges received a pension in January of this year, which on average amounted to around 1,500 euro (11,300 Kuna), which is 800 Kuna more than in January last year, writes danica.hr. Whilst the average pension in Croatia in January was 381 euro, or around 1,100 euro less than the pensions of politicians and high ranking civil servants.

This is revealed by new data from the Croatian Pension Insurance Institute, according to which a total of 684 people from this category of former high-ranking officials received pensions in January.

In January, a total of about 1.23 million pensioners received pensions, which is about 5,000 pensioners less than a year ago.

According to the Pension Insurance Act, 1.13 million pensioners received pensions in January, and their average pension amounted to 381 euro, or about 2,870 Kuna. Last year in January, the average pension in that category was around 2,650 Kuna. Today, therefore, it is 220 Kuna higher. Data reveal that almost 200,000 pensioners in Croatia today receive less than 270 euro, or less than 2,034 Kuna.

On the other hand, at the beginning of January, there were a total of around 1.61 million people in employment in Croatia (employed by all bases and categories), which is around 36,000 employees more than at the beginning of January last year. Therefore, there are 1.31 employees per pensioner.
