An 81-year-old man was seriously injured and detained in the Traumatology Hospital. He fell from an electric scooter in the pedestrian area of Ban Josip Jelačić Square on Monday evening due to speeding.
The Zagreb police stated on Tuesday that the accident happened around 9:30 p.m. when the driver lost control of the vehicle due to inappropriate speed and fell.
Medical assistance was provided to the 81-year-old at the Traumatology Clinic, where it was determined that he was seriously injured.
Last summer the Law on Road Safety was amended, and vehicles with an electric motor stronger than 0.6 kW and which can reach a speed of more than 25 km/h on a flat road are considered personal means of transport.
These are vehicles that do not have seats, such as motorized or electric powered unicycles, Segway and motorized or electric powered scooters.
Electric scooters that belong to the category of personal transport, those that drive faster than 25 kilometres per hour, must be registered.
All drivers of scooters, rollerblades and inline skates must wear a helmet, otherwise a fine of 40 euro can be handed out.
