The battle to sign one of the hottest Croatian football talents is warming up with both Manchester United and Tottenham scouting Lovro Majer. The Rennes midfielder is often tagged as the “next Luka Modrić” a billing that is hard to live up to, although the attacking midfielder is trying his best.
And after a successful World Cup campaign in Qatar where Croatia finished with a bronze medal and a blistering season with Rennes in Ligue 1 the 25-year-old is catching the eye of many major European clubs. Apparently after a recent match between Rennes and French champions PSG, in which Rennes won and Majer was named man of the match, the sporting director of PSG spoke to Majer’s agent.
And now comes news that two, or possibly three, English Premier League heavyweights are interested in signing the Croatian in the January transfer window. The third club being the current leaders of the Premiership, Arsenal. According to reports the North London club have been following the progress of Majer for some time and have sent scouts out to France to monitor him.
Majer arrived in Rennes last year from Dinamo Zagreb in a transfer worth 12 million euros. In total, he played 58 games in that period, scoring eight goals and assisting another 12 times.
And according to the website transfermarkt.com his current value is 22 million euros. Although reports have suggested that the value of Majer now is closer to 40 million euros.
