Real Madrid lost heavily to their biggest rivals Barcelona in the final of the Spanish Super Cup and Croatian football star Luka Modrić found himself in the line of criticism.

Barcelona beat Real Madrid 3-1 in the Spanish Super Cup which this year was held at the King Fahd International Stadium in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. This was the first trophy that Barcelona have won under manager Xavi Hernández. In recent days Barcelona have been linked with Croatian midfielder Marcelo Brozović.

The Spanish sports newspaper, Marca, picked out Luka Modrić in their write up of the match “Modrić doesn’t exist after the World Cup,” wrote Marca.

And they continued clearly suggesting that the Croatian captain needs a break after his exploits in the World Cup at which Croatia picked up the bronze medal after defeating Morocco.

“It's physically melted. He is the player on whom the consequences of playing in the World Cup are most felt. Out of the game at all times. He tried to connect the game, connect with the attackers, but he did not succeed, because the whole team had a problem getting out of their own half", wrote Marca.
