Written by  Sep 02, 2022

Since the beginning of the year until the end of August, 15 million tourists visited Croatia, and 86.6 million overnight stay were recorded. These figures represent 90 percent of the number from the record breaking year of 2019, whilst the earnings from tourism exceeded 2019 by 2019, according to information from the Ministry of Tourism and Sports (MINTS) reported.

In terms of destinations with the most overnight stays, Rovinj again dominates, with 3.5 million, followed by Dubrovnik and Poreč with 2.8 million each, Medulin with 2.6 million, Umag with 2.4 million and Split with 2.4 million in the first eight months.

Among foreign tourists, Germans had by far the most overnight stays, 19.8 million, followed by Slovenians with 8.8 million. They are followed by tourists from Austria with 6.5 million overnight stays, Poland with 5.7 million, the Czech Republic with 5.2 million and Italians with 3.7 million, and in the top ten there are also Slovaks, Dutch and tourists from the United Kingdom.

The ministry stated that from the beginning to August 30 of this year, that the revenue from tourism was 64 percent more than last year, which would be expected, and 38 percent more than 2019, which is much higher than predicted.

The Minister of Tourism and Sports, Nikolina Brnjac, congratulated the entire sector, adding that apart from tourist traffic, which is physically almost at the level of 2019, they are particularly satisfied with the financial results, which are even better than that year.
