Written by  Aug 22, 2022

On Sunday, Croatian tennis player, Borna Ćorić, wrote a part of tennis history by defeating the seventh tennis player in the world, the Greek Stefanos Tsitsipas, 7-6 (0), 6-2 in the final of the ATP Masters 1000 tournament in Cincinnati, thus becoming the lowest-ranked player in the ATP rankings to have won a Masters trophy.

After stringing together victories over Lorenzo Musetti, Rafael Nadal, Roberto Bautista Agut, Felix Auger-Aliassime and Cameron Norri, Ćorić ended his dream week with a third victory over a player from the Top 10 and became the fourth Croatian tennis player with a Masters 1000 title. Before him, these titles were won by Goran Ivanišević (Stockholm 1992, Paris 1993), Ivan Ljubičić (Indian Wells 2010) and Marin Čilić (Cincinnati 2016).

The victory brought the 25-year-old from Zagreb the third, biggest title in his professional career, a move of 123 places in the individual ATP rankings and the status of seed at the upcoming US Open, because Borna Ćorić will be the 29th tennis player in the world when the rankings come out today.
