Million tourists currently staying in Croatia as tourism kicks up a gear

Written by  Jul 21, 2022

For the first time this year, more than one million guests are staying in Croatia on a daily basis, of which around 900,000 are foreign. Breaking this landmark number down, there are currently around 277,000 tourists in Istria, 188,000 tourists in the Split-Dalmatia County, about 185,000 in Kvarner and in the Zadar County, around 167,000 tourists. Looking at the destinations, the most guests are currently staying in Rovinj, Vir, Medulin, Poreč, Umag and Dubrovnik.

Data from the eVisitor system, which measures the flow of tourists, shows that the most numerous guests are currently from Germany, Slovenia, the domestic market, Austria, Poland and the Czech Republic.

And when accommodation types are highlighted then most guests are currently staying in private accommodation (about 434,000), camps (about 205,000) and hotels (about 157,000), while about 24,000 guests are currently on nautical charters.

Last year, Croatia exceeded the number of one million guests on a daily basis for the first time on July 26, while this year this number was exceeded almost a week earlier. This is a confirmation of the very good tourist trends in July, and in fact the country has recorded 97 percent of the number of tourists compared with the record breaking 2019.
