The Ministry of Agriculture, in cooperation with Croatian producers, has provided access to the demanding Japanese market for top quality beef from Croatian breeding.

This is the result of many years of work by the Ministry of Agriculture on programs to eradicate and control major infectious animal diseases, which is reflected in the internationally recognized official animal health status of the World Organization for Animal Health (OIE). Thanks to persistent efforts to demonstrate the equivalence of animal health control systems products of animal origin in the Republic of Croatia to the competent authority of Japan and the harmonization of sanitary guarantees of product safety, which were ultimately accepted as appropriate for the demanding Japanese market.

In addition to the opportunity provided by the possibility of placing high-value products on this prestigious market, this is a great reference for Croatian products in other markets.

The Ministry of Agriculture, independently and in cooperation with the European Commission, is continuously working on opening numerous other markets of interest to Croatian producers, so that in 2021 the export of fishery products, mixed products and raw and salted hides to Israel, milk and dairy products to Libya, sheep and goats and beef to Iran, pet food to Albania, ice cream to Costa Rica, gelatin capsules to Egypt.

Given that each member of the World Trade Organization (WTO) can independently assess the health risks of imports of certain animals and products of animal origin, the duration and complexity of negotiations of this kind varies depending on the economic interests and administrative capacity of the importing country, the level of risk of the imported goods and the interest of the importer.
