Average age of vehicles in Croatia over 14 years

The average age of vehicles in Croatia is 14.34 years, and last year 19.74 percent of vehicles did not pass the technical inspection during the first inspection of vehicles, the Croatian Vehicle Centre announced this week.

On average, 5.14 defects were found per defective vehicle, and last year, out of 2,271,201 inspected vehicles, 448,386 were defective.

The largest number of defects was found with lighting and light signalling devices (560 thousand), and on braking devices (537 thousand).

Some of the most common deficiencies on all types of vehicles in Croatia were deficiencies on the self-supporting body, chassis and other parts (more than 300 thousand), irregularities on engines (247 thousand) and axle, wheel, tire and suspension systems (246 thousand).

More than 84 thousand irregularities on the vehicle equipment, 67 thousand defects on the devices that enable normal visibility and more than 64 thousand irregularities on the control devices were also noticed.

As in previous years, more than 65,000 vehicles did not pass the eco test, and more than 45,000 faults were found on control and signalling devices on vehicles.

There was also an increase in the number of hybrid and electric vehicles compared to 2020. There were 15,918 hybrids last year, 8,080 in 2020, and 3,054 electric vehicles, compared to 1,343 a year earlier.

The average age of vehicles in Croatia is 14.34 years, while the year before it was 14.18 years.

The average distance travelled by vehicles in Croatia in 2021 was 11,016 km, while in 2019, for example, that distance was 12,542 km.
