Croatians can now travel visa free to the USA

As of today, Croatian citizens are allowed to travel to the United States without a visa, the US Embassy in Zagreb announced.

Croatian membership in the so called “Visa Waiver Program (VWP)” is an important step in further strengthening economic and security co-operation between the two countries, the embassy said.

“We are incredibly pleased that Croatian citizens now enjoy the opportunity to travel to the United States without visas,” said the charge d'affaires of the US Embassy in Zagreb, Mark Fleming.

“This has been a long but important process and we welcome the efforts of the Croatian Government to meet the strict requirements of our program,” added Fleming.

The visa waiver program is a comprehensive security partnership of the United States and participating countries that allows travel to the United States for business or tourism purposes for up to 90 days, while protecting national security.

In order for a country to enter the program, it must meet criteria in the areas of counter-terrorism, law enforcement, immigration, document security and border management, the statement said. It is added that the percentage of rejected visas must be below 3 percent, which Croatia has fulfilled only recently.

Authorizations obtained by citizens through ESTA are usually valid for two years. Travelers with B1 or B2 visas already issued can use them to travel to the United States.
