The fourth leading cause of death in Croatia last year was Covid-19

The Croatian Institute of Public Health (HZJZ) has published a report on deaths in Croatia in 2020.

Data from the Central Bureau of Statistics (CBS) show that in 2020 there was an increase in the number of deaths compared to the previous year, i.e. 5,229 more people died.

Out of a total of 57,023 deaths in 2020, 28,093 or 49.3 percent were men and 28,930 or 50.7 percent were women.

The first cause of death is still diseases of the circulatory system, of which 22,817 people died. Of the neoplasms, the second group of diseases leading to death, 13,508 people died. 4,735 people died from diseases of the endocrine system, the third leading cause.

The fourth leading cause of death was Covid-19. As a result of Covid in Croatia, 4,478 people died last year. Injuries and poisonings were in fifth place, of which 2,613 people died, HZJZ reported.
