A strong earthquake of magnitude 4.6 on the Richter scale hit Dalmatia last night.
The strong earthquake struck around 10:00pm last night and the epicentre was 39 kilometres from Split and was measured at a depth of 5 kilometres.
There were some reports of damage to buildings, but fortunately no injuries have been reported.
The quake was felt in Split, Makarska, Šibenik, Sinj, Imotski, but also on the island of Hvar and in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
According to the website of the European Mediterranean Seismological Centre, the quake lasted between 10 and five seconds.
Numerous residents of the wider area around Split said that the buildings were shaking and that they felt a strong tremor.
After this first strong earthquake a number of smaller, less intense, earthquakes hit the region.
