Split expects to welcome around fifty foreign cruise ships this summer

According to the announcements about fifty cruisers with foreign flags should sail into the city port of Split this summer, the head of the Port Operations Centre, Vicko Vrgoč, told Hina.

"If something doesn't change in the meantime, we expect the arrival of about fifty cruisers on Saturdays throughout the summer. We believe that from June 18 we will have cruisers on Fridays as well, and as things stand now. Now we are waiting for possible announcements from other companies", says Vrgoč.

He admits that everything is still cautious and notes that the number of passengers on all cruisers has been reduced due to epidemiological measures, and reveals that tourists cannot board a cruiser without adequate Covid checks and vaccination, and that ships are constantly carrying out various controls.

More and more tourists are arriving in Split, data from the Split Tourist Board shows that in May around 15 thousand arrivals and more than 55 thousand overnight stays were recorded.

“These are very optimistic figures, but we must be objective and very careful because everything will depend on the epidemiological situation. We must be responsible first of all to our citizens, and then to our guests," said the director of the Tourist Board of the City of Split, Alijana Vukšić.

She also pointed out that guests are staying longer and spending more, and the specificity of this year is that they are looking for isolated accommodation, security and vacations in holiday homes and on boats. She believes that the numbers will get better day by day. She also revealed that there are a lot of digital nomads in the city this year.
