Croatia is well on its way to becoming a member of the Schengen area in 2022, and after that it will enter the eurozone, Croatian Prime Minister Andrej Plenković said in Brussels on Tuesday.
"It would be great to enter Schengen in 2022, and if this is even earlier we would be very satisfied, and as far as the eurozone is concerned, we will do everything to make it happen as soon as possible," Plenković said after the extraordinary EU summit in Brussels.
He noted that during the two-day summit, he used the opportunity for a series of bilateral talks on the two Croatian strategic goals.
"I continued to explain the fact that we received the green light from the Commission and confirmation that the technical criteria for Schengen were fully met. We are now slowly preparing this topic to reach the political level of decision-making and after yesterday’s conversation with Commissioner for Home Affairs Ylva Johansson I think we are on the right track. It is similar with the Eurozone," said Plenković.
