If you forgot to wear your face mask you could be in for a hefty fine from the end of this week. The fine for not wearing your face mask could be between 500 and 1,500 Kuna. It was a busy weekend for lawmakers and politicians who spent Saturday and Sunday discussing amendments to the law, with the Law on Protection of the Population from Infectious Diseases the top of the list.
It is rumoured that three articles to the law will be changed or introduced, these are the wearing of protective face masks, public gatherings and private parties. It is believed that today by 3.00pm the government will release more details, including the size of the fine for breaking the regulations.
Of these three article the wearing, or rather not wearing, of face masks will probably see the most penalties. Namely, the obligation to wear masks applies to all closed spaces, but also to open ones where a physical distance of one and a half meters cannot be maintained. This second rule could mean that if three people are sitting on a park bench less than a metre and a half away from each other they could all be fined.
The size of the fine for not wearing a mask has yet to be released but it is rumoured to be between 500 and 1,500 Kuna. And the fines will increase for repeat offenders. All these new laws and indeed fines could be in place by Friday of this week.
