Did you know there is a day dedicated to the tie, a Croatian invention?
There is.. and it is celebrated this week on Oct. 18th.
In the spirit of World Cravat Day 2024, local Croatian-American Albert Anthony Bozulic sent our readers his greetings and commentary, as he symbolically announces he is joining the Croatian Economic Association (Hrvatsko Društvo Ekonomista) today.
"Wishing everyone a happy World Cravat Day 2024, I wanted to mention that the Croatian roots of the tie (kravat) is written about both in Wikipedia and even British media like The Guardian, among other sources, and the fashion item has its roots in this region dating back to the 17th century primarily. In fact, according to Wikipedia the Croatian Parliament proclaimed Oct. 18th a national day back in 2008.
Symbolically to celebrate Croatian innovation and brands, today I'm announcing that I'll be joining the non-profit, non-partisan organization Croatian Economic Association (Hrvatsko Društvo Ekonomista), who brings together not only economists but also former cabinet ministers, folks from the world of business, and others who have an interest in discussing Croatian economic topics. In fact, it was an inspiration to me that they recently organized a roundtable panel in Zadar on the topic of economic potential of the coastal Dalmatia region, an event I personally attended.
I look forward to sharing my ideas and furthering the discussion of Croatian economics and business competitiveness on the global marketplace as we look towards the future, and can bring to the table my unique perspective as someone who has been in the business world outside of Croatia many years," Albert Anthony remarked.
Albert Anthony is known for being active recently in nonprofit organizations like the Croatian Lymphoma & Leukemia Association(Udruga Limfome i Leukemije), the ethics committee of the city council in Zadar, and having been a candidate for Croatian Parliament last spring, in addition to having worked as an extra on various productions for Croatian casting agencies since 2023.
Although he has not revealed his future political ambitions and whether he will take part in next year's local elections in Croatia, as it would be inappropriate on this national day of ties, he instead symbolically wore his favorite blue tie.. as the sound of a new 5-star hotel being built next to the marina in Zadar could be heard behind him.
