Selfies can be dangerous for your health, that the message from the Croatian mountain rescue service. The mountain rescue service has warned people about putting themselves in danger in the hunt for the perfect seflie whilst on holiday in Croatia.

A Canadian man almost fell down a 75-metre cliff top in the Plitvice Lakes national park as he edged further back he fell and was only saved as tree branches broke his fall. The 20 year-old Canadian was lucky, although he did suffer serious injuries according to a police report.

And the Croatian mountain rescue service has urged tourists not to take “stupid and dangerous selfies.” On their official Twitter account they posted - Dear tourists, we respect you. It’s time for you to start respecting yourself. So, stop making stupid and dangerous selfies. Thank you.

This is not the first time that a photo in the Plitvice Lakes has been dangerous, just last year a Slovak tourist fell from the same spot as died whilst taking a photo.

The appeal came after the young Canadian plunged off a 75-metre (250-foot) viewpoint in the Plitvice Lakes national park while trying to take the perfect selfie.

The new project for the Belvedere Hotel in Dubrovnik was presented to representatives of the Dubrovnik City Council on Friday. The design for Belvedere was created by 3LHD Architects from Zagreb and Maro Dabrovic from the company presented the design to the Mayor of Dubrovnik and members of the city council.

The idea behind the new concept for the Belvedere, a hotel that was badly damaged in the Homeland War, is for a cascading hotel that will follow the contours of the land. It will have significantly fewer rooms than the previous hotel and will feature modern, spacious and unobtrusive architecture. The new hotel when completed should be one of the most luxurious in Croatia and will set new standards for the hotel industry in the wider Mediterranean region.

Dubrovnik is proving a magnet for sportspeople this summer. Famous footballers, swimmers, handball players and other athletes have chosen the Dubrovnik Riviera for their summer holidays.

After the stresses and strains of competing in the Euros 2016 in France two members of the Croatian national football team decided to relax in Dubrovnik, the flying winger Ivan Perisic and the striker Nikola Kalinic, both stayed in the Valamar Hotels.

And from the world of handball the popular Croatian star Domagoj Duvnjak with girlfriend Lucija Žulj are currently on holiday in Dubrovnik. Duvnjak was named World Player of the Year in 2013 and plays for the club THW Kiel in Germany. Another handball ace is also staying in Dubrovnik at the moment, the legendary Kiril Lazarov who plays for Barcelona. In fact Dubrovnik could put together quite a good handball team as the German players Steffen Weinhold and Jacob Heinl as also in town.

With the melody of the “Hymn to Freedom” and the raising of the Libertas flag the 67th Dubrovnik Summer Festival will be opened on the 10th of July at 9 o’clock in front of the S. Blaise Church in the heart of the Old City of Dubrovnik. The festival will host forty-five days of world class drama, music, ballet, art and much more with an international audience of over 60,000 people expected this year.

The opening ceremony is always a grand affair and this year looks like being even more creative than usual. The screenplay for the opening ceremony was written by Mani Gotovac and will be directed by Ivana Miladinov. One of the highlights will be a performance by the legendary Dubrovnik dance ensemble Lindo who will be celebrating fifty years of performing at the summer festival. The music for this special evening will be performed by the Symphony Orchestra of Croatian Radio Television and three choirs will also be performing.

After the main opening ceremony of the 67th Dubrovnik Summer Festival there will be a traditional fireworks display which will be held from near the Banje Beach.

Apart from the world renowned destinations such as Mauritius, the Canary Islands and the Republic of South Africa, this summer German tourists have also opted for Croatia as their favourite destination.

According to data from TUI, the world biggest tour operator from Germany, this year holiday reservations for Croatia in June have increased by 26.4 percent over the same period from last year.

Concerning the structure of the total tourist arrivals achieved last year, foreign tourists accounted for 88.4 percent and domestic tourists accounted for 11.6 percent i.e. there were 9.1 per cent more arrivals of foreign guests and 10,3 per cent more arrivals of domestic guests.

Furthermore, the DZS data shows that in the structure of the total overnight stays achieved last year, foreign tourists accounted for 92 per cent and domestic tourists accounted for 8 per cent. Overnight stays of foreign guests recorded an increase of 7.4 percent whilst overnight stays of domestic guests edged up by 11.3 per cent.

The most numerous foreign guests in terms of overnight stays last year were Germans (23.9 %) followed by Slovenians (10.1 %), Austrians (9 %), Italians and Czechs (both 7.3%), Polish (6.6%), Slovakians (3.9%), British (3.7%) and Hungarians (3.4%), a total of 79 per cent. Foreign tourists from other countries accounted for 21 percent in overnight stays.

For many years Ibiza has had a monopoly in the tourism industry targeting party people, but recently Croatia has managed to find its place in the festival tourism scene offering 20 such events a year.

''In recent years Croatia has improved its infrastructure; Airbnb is growing very fast and is a real hit in Croatia. On the other hand, the Croatian 1,700 kilometres long coastline is a perfect guarantee for a great summer vacation. Thanks to all this and to numerous summer festivals, the Adriatic coastline in Croatia has become a real magnet for tourists who used to go to the Balearic Islands'', reported the London Evening Standard.

One example of the booming summer festival in Croatia is on the small island of Obonjan in the Sibenik-Knin County with a program that offers a combination of live music and a variety of wellness – from yoga to visits to natural and cultural beauties.
''Music is only a small part of the experience. Our intention is to offer our visitors a unique experience that is completely different from other festivals or summer vacations. As most people work full time and do not have time for rest and relaxation, this island offers its guests every possible way to reduce their stress and forget about their problems– from entertainment to wellness'', says Nikola Busljeta, one of the festival founders.

Many festivals in Croatia are taking advantage of the cultural heritage as a part of the scenery which impresses visitors. Some festivals like Sonus on the island of Pag, which is a relatively short festival is held in the open on boats. There is no doubt that Croatia is becoming one of the favourite destinations of European summer tourism.

This year the Ultra Europe Croatia will be a seven-day event organized along the Adriatic coastline. It starts in Split and then moves to Brac, Hvar and finishes on the island of Vis.

''Croatia is one of the European destinations which we have considered suitable for creating something unique and original'', said Russell Faibisch the co-founder and the president of the Ultra Enterprise.

Favourable trends in the tourism industry have become even better since Croatia entered the European Union which can be best seen in Zagreb and on the island of Pag. The Croatian summer clubs stay open longer than the clubs on Ibiza.
