The World Health Organization (WHO) on Saturday reported a second consecutive record number of new coronavirus infections, with 259,848 cases in the last 24 hours.
The number of those infected on Saturday increased the most in the United States, Brazil, India and South Africa.
The last daily record was set the day before, on Friday, when there were 237,743 cases. 7,360 deaths were recorded on Saturday, the highest daily increase since May. In July, an average of 4,800 people have died per day, which is a slight increase compared to June when there were 4,600.
The total number of infected people in the world on Friday exceeded 14 million, and the number of deaths exceeded 600,000. The WHO on Saturday recorded 71,000 new cases of the infection in the U.S., 45,400 in Brazil, 34,800 in India and 13,300 in South Africa.
