The leaders of the European Union have closed down all borders to all almost all visitors for 30 days in an aim to combat the spread of coronavirus across Europe.
At a conference call held yesterday the leaders of the 27 union members, including over 400 million people, took this drastic measure to halt any further spread of coronavirus.
N1 have reported that exceptions will be made for European citizens and residents coming home, although some countries were asking them to self-isolate for two weeks, in some cases away from their families. Medical professionals and scientists will also be exempt.
“We are prepared to take all the necessary measures and we will not hesitate to take additional measures in accordance with new developments,” commented the president of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen.
