1. Understand the Genetics
Lemon Cherry Gelato strain is a hybrid strain, usually made by crossing Lemon Tree with Cherry Pie and then with Gelato. The result is a well-balanced hybrid with the best of indica and sativa character. It usually has medium size but grow rather bushy, similar to an indica strain, though it tends to stretch a lot more during growth like sativa plants. Knowing where your Lemon Cherry Gelato strain comes from will help you determine how much space and light this plant will need.
2. Indoor vs. Outdoor Growth: Choose Wisely
Hypno Seeds Lemon Cherry Gelato strain can be grown indoors and outdoors, but will produce different yield results. Here is some more information to help you decide:
Indoor:
- Indoor cultivators can manage the environment, lights, and moisture which are all important if you want to get Lemon Cherry Gelato’s terpene content and production to their maximum level.
- The strain should have a stable temperature situated at 70–80°F (21–27°C) degrees during the vegging period and 65–75°F (18–24°C) when it flowers.
- It likes lower humidity levels, especially in the flowering stage (about 40–50%) as high humidity can cause mold and mildew.
- Lemon Cherry Gelato strain thrives best in sunny, Mediterranean-like environments.
- Outdoor plants generally grow taller and can yield more, but they are also exposed to pests and diseases along with inclement weather.
- Ensure that your plants get a lot of direct sunlight and that you have good air circulation to avoid any mold or pests.
3. Master the Nutrient Schedule
Cannabis strains, especially hybrids like Lemon Cherry Gelato, can be nutrient sensitive. Overfeed and you’ll burn your nutrients, underfeed and the plant will stop growing really quickly.
Stage one being the vegetative stage and two the flowering stage.
- In The Vegetative Stage you will want a high Nitrogen (N) content in it's feed as nitrogen helps grow nice strong healthy leaves and stems and that is very important for when she starts to flower as she needs to be able to support itself.
- Flowering Stage: Once plant has started flowering you will want to reduce the nitrogen ,and up the Phosphorus (P) and potassium (K). Phosphorus helps with bud development while potassium keeps your whole plant happy and healthy .
- pH Levels – It’s all about the pH. Soil should be around 6.0-6.5, and hydroponics should be around 5.5-6.0 (always double check with testing tools! You don’t want nutrient lockout and want your plants to uptake as many nutrients as possible).
4. Optimize Light and Space
- Like any cannabis strain, Lemon Cherry Gelato seeds need a lot of light to grow. Therefore whether you are cultivating indoors or outside, it’s important that there is adequate lighting for the best possible results.
- Inside Lighting: If you choose to grow Lemon Cherry Gelato seeds inside, most indoor growers will use LED lights, they give off a full light spectrum for veg and flower. 18 on and 6 hours off means complete darkness during vegetation will promote good growth , then swap to 12 hours on 12 off during flowering , this instructs plant it’s time to flower.
- Outdoor Lighting: If you have the luxury of growing outdoors ensure your plants receive at least 8 hours direct sunlight each day. Try to place them somewhere in your garden where they won’t be overshadowed by buildings or other larger plants.
- Spacing: Lemon Cherry Gelato is a lovely bushy and wide plant so make space for her as she doesn't like getting too crowded and enjoys good air circulation, this will also help prevent pest and mold.
5. Pruning and Training Techniques
- To get the most out of your Lemon Cherry Gelato harvest, you’ll want to employ some pruning and training techniques. This strain can grow quite bushy, and so removing some of the vegetation will improve airflow throughout the canopy and help prevent mold. It will also allow light to deeper penetrate through the plant.
- Pruning: Take off any lower leaves or branches that are too far away from reaching the light anyways. This tells the plant to focus all its energy on growing those main bud sites bigger and more potent!
- Training: Low-stress training (LST) is suggested for Lemon Cherry Gelato. By gently bending and tying branches down, you can expose more bud sites to light which will help encourage a more even canopy and larger buds overall.
6. Be Mindful of Flowering Time
Lemon Cherry Gelato has an average flowering time of 8 to 10 weeks. While your plant is developing during this phase, watch the trichomes (the hair-like crystals that form on the buds) for a signal it’s time to harvest. When they go from clear to milky white you’ll know it’s nearly there, and for a more heavy effect (indica like) let some of the trichomes turn amber before harvest.
The last two weeks of flowering you may want to flush the plant with plain water in order to purge any additional chemical buildup, and help improve taste and smoothness.
