The Best Casinos to Visit in Nordic Countries

Written by  The Dubrovnik Times Jun 02, 2021

As you may well know, there are several excellent casinos in Croatia. In Dubrovnik, you can visit the fantastic Rixos Libertas Dubrovnik Hotel & Casino Golden Sun. But if you want to explore casinos further afield, you will find plenty of great establishments throughout Europe, including the Nordic countries. However, not every Nordic country has land-based casinos. There are none in Norway or Iceland. But if you visit Sweden, Denmark, or Finland, you can discover some of the finest casinos around. Here is a look at the best casino in each of those Nordic countries.

Sweden - Casino Cosmopol Stockholm

All of Sweden’s four land-based casinos are owned by the state-run Casino Cosmopol. They are located in the major cities of Malmo, Goteborg, Sundsvall, and the capital Stockholm. The latter is arguably the best. It has forty-four table games on offer, including casino favorites like roulette, baccarat, and blackjack. If you enjoy playing live blackjack online at a site like the award-winning Casumo, which recently won in the Casino Operator category at the EGR Nordics Awards 2021, you are sure to enjoy playing the game at an actual brick-and-mortar casino like Casino Cosmopol. The Swedish casino also provides several types of poker games, including Texas hold ‘em and Omaha. Poker tournaments are held regularly. The large casino floor of the Casino Cosmopol Stockholm also features around four hundred slot machines and the establishment even holds regular slot tournaments.

Denmark - Casino Copenhagen

Out of the six casinos in Denmark, the one in the capital of Copenhagen is the largest and the best. Casino Copenhagen is still not as large as Casino Cosmopol Stockholm, though. At Denmark’s primary casino, you can play around twenty-five table games. In addition to traditional favorites like blackjack and roulette, you can play games like punto banco and Rocket 7. The latter is a great dice game similar to craps. You can also play several versions of poker and poker tournaments are held each week. In addition, Casino Copenhagen contains around one-hundred-and-forty slot machines, including video slots and electronic roulette.

Finland - Casino Helsinki

If you visit Finland, there is only one casino you should consider visiting. Casino Helsinki, which is near the Central Railway Station in Finland’s capital, is owned by the governmental organization Veikkaus. While the casino itself has much to offer, what really makes Casino Helsinki special is that it donates all of its profits to charity. It is one of only a few casinos in the world to do that, and one of the others, called Paf, is also in Finland

Casino Helsinki has around three hundred slot machines, more than twenty gaming tables, and even a poker room; all of which are spread out over two stories. With 28,000 square feet of floor space, there is plenty to discover at Finland’s greatest casino. The table games include the likes of American roulette, baccarat, blackjack, and poker. If you are a fan of poker, you can play numerous versions, including Omaha hold ‘em, five-card stud, Chinese poker, Texas hold ‘em, and dealer’s choice, at one of the casino’s seven poker tables. Tournaments for poker are held weekly, and Casino Helsinki also hosts the annual Finnish Poker Championships. Furthermore, all of the regular cash poker games at the casino are part of the Bad Beat Jackpot. It works like this: if six or more players are dealt a hand and the game results in a flop, one euro is taken from the pot and goes into the Bad Beat Jackpot. You will be hard-pushed to beat the elegant and exciting atmosphere of Casino Helsinki anywhere else in the Nordics.
