3 Best Croatian Footballers of All Time

By  The Dubrovnik Times Apr 06, 2021

Croatian football has recently risen to new heights, as evidenced by the results of the 2018 World Cup. Croatia triumphantly reached the finals, losing in a playoff series only to the French in the final match. At the club level, this country has not had much success. Most researchers believe this is because Croatia's most talented players play for top clubs outside the country. And here are 3 best players on whom the greatest number of fans bet online.

Mario Mandzukic

This popular Croatian striker is currently playing in the Qatari league, clearly earning a good salary, but his career seems to be coming to an end.

And it was quite bright. In 2012, he moved to Bayern. At the German club he spent two seasons and scored 33 goals in 54 games. Soon he became of interest to Atletico Madrid, where Mandzukic played one season at a high level. But his goal was not the Spanish championship. Mario has always dreamt of playing for Juventus and he made it. He played 118 matches for the Old Lady and scored 31 goals.

He is also the only player in the history of World Cups who managed to score in his own goal and the rivals' goal in the final match. It happened in the match against France, which the Croats lost with a score of 2-4.

Ivan Rakitic

A famous Croatian midfielder, who gained his popularity playing for Barcelona. He started his career in Basel, then played for Sevilla and won Europa League with them. With Barcelona Rakitic once signed a 5-year contract, for which he won most of the trophies in his career: Champions League, Spanish Cup, Spanish Championship, UEFA Super Cup and others. Rakitic was recognized as the best footballer and athlete in Croatia in 2015.

Luka Modric

By far the most popular player in Croatia. In 2018, he won the Golden Ball, interrupting the alternating hegemony of Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi. After his sparkling game at Dinamo Zagreb, he was spotted by the Tottenham selectors in 2008. In 2012 Modric moved from English club to Real Madrid. The beginning of Modric's career was not very good, journalists even began to call him the worst acquisition of the year. But then everything was quickly corrected for the better, Luka decorates the game of the club to this day.
