As adults age, many begin to worry about sex in their later years and shy away from sexual encounters. However, it’s reported to increase lifespan, solidify relationships and even improve mental and physical health – so why isn’t it encouraged?
OnBuy.com spoke to 2,381 over 60s to understand their sexual encounters and habits as they grow older, delving deep into the sex lives of older adults.
OnBuy found that a whopping 3 in 5 (63%) admit to thinking about sex on a weekly basis, however 48% have had no sexual activity in the past year. Of those who think about sex on a daily basis (21%), 71% think about it 1-2 times per day, 19% think about 3-5 times, 8% think about it 5-10 times and 2% do so 10 or more times.
Interestingly, more than 1 in 10 (11%) are interested in embarking on new sexual relationships – maybe Tinder for Seniors is worth a try! However, only 6% have seen an increase in their sex drive.
Despite their age, many are still eager to create new experiences as 1 in 5 (23%) would like to try new things with their current partner!
OnBuy.com were keen to discover which fetishes and kinks over 60s are into and discovered that 20% of respondents have specific preferences in the bedroom (and outside of it, in some cases). Of those who have preferences, their favourite fetishes and kinks are as follows -
OnBuy.com found that BDSM is the most popular kink among over 60s, with a huge 63% interested in taking part and learning more about it – with the erotic practice involving bondage, discipline, dominance, submission and sadomasochism, this may come as a shock to some!
Age play is the second most desired encounter, with 3 in 5 keen to engage. This form of roleplaying allows them to treat one another as if they were younger or older and appears to be extremely popular among people over 60.
With 58% of respondents interested, group sex places in third! This involves more than two participants taking place in gatherings and are common among both men and women.
Taking fourth and fifth place are dominant/submissive (56%) and scene/role play (53%).
Honourable mention goes to golden showers, with 38% admitting that they’re interested in this sexual behaviour!
