Vocal group Sebenico from Sibenik is currently touring in the USA and according to their Facebook page, really having a great time in New York. They made ''ad hoc'' performance in Times Square singing ''Ballad of Sibenik''. People walking by seemed quite interested by this surprise concert and caught a chance to film it.
This vocal group is quite young, made back in 2011 and already won quite a few rewards. Maybe this performance will make them well-known on the American market.

Valamar Riviera is the leading tourist company in Croatia with accommodation that can handle around 55,000 guests per day at its 30 hotels and resorts as well as at 15 camping resorts along the Adriatic coast – in Istria, on the islands of Krk and Rab, and in Dubrovnik. Therefore, it is important to note that the company accounts for 12 percent of the total categorized accommodation in Croatia.
Consequently, Valamar Riviera is among the top five employers in Croatia and was declared the best tourist company. The best proof for this important title is also the fact that nearly 65 percent of seasonal workers return to work at Valamar year after year. Therefore, the company increases the number of employment contracts for an indefinite period of time every year; for example, in 2016 more than 60 workers got permanent employment, whilst an additional 178 permanent positions are planned for 2017.
For the upcoming summer season Valamar is looking for a larger number of professional, diligent and motivated persons to work in a dynamic environment at its tourist objects and facilities. Thus in 2017 Valamar Riviera will employ 1,200 new employees.
Valamar Riviera has already announced job openings in the department of food and beverages, in the department of household, at reception, in the department of technical and maintenance services as well as for workers in the sport facilities, reservation centres, information points etc.
The company will also provide free accommodation to all seasonal workers who come from different Croatia's counties. The quality of accommodation will be additionally enriched this year by building Valamar Staff Residence centres in Dubrovnik (it will be fully functional in 2018), on the island of Krk and in Rabac, Istria.

At the 89th Academy Awards ceremony in Hollywood which is to be held on the 26th of February, this year’s winners will be taking home the famous Oscar statuette manufactured by an American Croat.
For over 80 years, the Chicago cult company R.S. Owens & Co made the Oscar statuette, but last year the Academy selected Polich Tallix Fine Art Foundry from New York to make the famous statuette.
It is interesting to note that Dick Polich, the son of Croatian immigrants, is the founder and the owner of Polich Tallix Fine Art Foundry. Polich, originally Polic, is an 83-year-old graduate economist from Yale University and a graduate metallurgist from Massachusetts Institute of Technology. His roots are from the small village of Zlobin near Rijeka.
Polich Tallix was among the first in the United States to offer technological expertise and industrial capabilities in metalworking, which had previously been only capable in Europe. Dick Polich has made thousands of sculptures in his career, and worked with more than five hundred artists.
Using a cast bronze Oscar from 1929, Polich Tallix artisans managed to restore subtle features of George Stanley’s original sculpture, which was based on sketches by MGM art director Cedric Gibbons. The overall size of the statuette remained the same. It takes Polich Tallix around 3 months to complete 50 Oscar statuettes required for the big night.
''The entry of foreign retail chains into the Croatian market hasn't resulted in cheaper goods on their shelves'', commented Tanja Popovic-Filipovic, the head of the Centre for Consumer Education and Information.
Popovic-Filipovic also warned that even though it is an open market retailers adjusted prices of their products and no one was willing to offer products that would be cheaper than products of other competitive retail chains.
''The only way to cheaper food products is through shortening the distribution chain i.e. to buy from small local producers'', explained Popovic-Filipovic.
According to a survey by Eurostat, in 2015 the prices of food and non-alcoholic beverages in Croatia were still 9 percent below the average prices in the European Union.
However, the purchasing power of Croatian citizens is far more lower than in the rest of the EU. The average wage in the European Union is around 1,500 Euros, whilst in Croatia it is up to 740 Euros.
Supermarkets are the most profitable economic sector in Croatia; they recorded an annual growth of revenue by 4.5 percent in 2016.
