Third edition of the Stradun Classic festival in Dubrovnik starts on Tuesday

By  Sep 28, 2020

The beginning of autumn in Dubrovnik also marks the opening of the Stradun Classic music festival, which this year will be held for the third year in a row.

This popular music festival in Dubrovnik is led by one of the most talented Croatian musicians, clarinettist Marija Pavlović. Already in the first year of the festival, in 2018, Pavlović collected many musical friends in her city and together with the Dubrovnik Symphony Orchestra prepared concerts for audiences to remember. Although this year has been a great challenge for everyone, the festival will be held somewhat differently than planned, but given the names that are coming to Dubrovnik, top music experiences are guaranteed.

This year there will be two concerts and one cinema screening of last year's concert. These performances will include - the Dubrovnik Symphony Orchestra (DSO) chamber ensemble, clarinettist Marija Pavlović, violinist and long-time concert master of the world-famous London Symphony Orchestra, and today professor at the Royal College of London Gordan Nikolić, renowned French cellist Céline Flamen and members of the Dubrovnik Symphony Orchestra, Đana Kahriman and Šimun Končić.

The opening concert of the festival will be held on Tuesday, September 29 in the atrium of the Rector's Palace, and is entitled “A Heavenly Light.” The program includes Bach's Partita for violin and cello no. 2 in D minor, Kodály's Duo for Violin and Cello and Mozart's Clarinet Quintet.

The second concert will be held on October 2 at the same venue, and is entitled “With Dance, Romance and Passion.” This concert features the DSO String Chamber Ensemble, violinist Gordan Nikolić and clarinettist Marija Pavlović. And as the title suggests the concert will include Bartók's Romanian Folk Dances for String Orchestra, Weber's Quintet for Clarinet and String Orchestra in B flat major.

Last year's concert "Slavic Evening" will be broadcast on October 3 at the Sloboda cinema, where the DSO was conducted by Singaporean conductor Darrell Ang, while violinist Daniel Rowland and mezzo-soprano Renata Pokupić performed as soloists.

All events are held in accordance with epidemiological measures.

The Stradun Classic Festival is held with the support of the City of Dubrovnik, the Dubrovnik Tourist Board, the Dubrovnik-Neretva County and the Rixos Premium Dubrovnik Hotel.
