The Dubrovnik Midsummer Scene Festival, which always attracts a large number of fans of Shakespeare's works will not take place this year due to the COVID-10 pandemic. The festival was scheduled to take place from June 18 to July 6.
"Our festival has always put the health and safety of the performers and the audience first, so this year we had to make a sad but inevitable decision. Following the instructions of the Government of the Republic of Croatia and in keeping with the restrictions imposed on theatres on the United Kingdom, unfortunately we have to postpone the program until 2021,” said the festival organizers and producers.
This year began with the third consecutive guest appearance at the Bermuda Festival, and the series was to continue its inclusion in the main program of the Shakespeare Festival in Neuss, Germany and play on the Globe Theatre stage replica. Although the festival has been cancelled, the organizers are sure that Germany will re-invite the Festival because they are convinced of the quality of the Festival and the love of classical theatre.
"Although this decision was inevitable to us, we have in mind the people who should have worked with us this year. This year, such lights go out on our stage, but that does not mean that we will sink into the dark forever. This is goodbye to next year, not goodbye. We share the fate of all theatres and festivals and wish them the strength and ingenuity to survive all of this. Dear friends, remain healthy and safe and ready to join us again until the meeting,” concluded the organisers.
