SATURDAY CONCERT: Dubrovnik and Saint Blaise in the words and music of Dubrovnik authors

Written by  Jan 29, 2020

Traditional concert on the occasion of Festivity of Saint Blaise and the City Day will be held on Saturday, February 1st at the Franciscan Church, starting at 8pm.

Concert that goes by the name "Dubrovnik and Saint Blaise in the Words and Music of Dubrovnik Authors“ will bring together Dubrovnik musicians: the Dubrovnik Symphony Orchestra, the Libertas Mixed Choir, soprano Paulina Dapo, flutist Dive Franetovic Kuselj and the Ragusavecchia vocal group. The role of the narrator of the lyrics by Davor Mojas and Luka Paljetak is carried out by Sebastian Vukosavic, while the concert will be conducted by Viktor Lenert.

The program includes works by Dubrovnik composers, including those who were born in the City or who lived in it and were inspired by its beauty. Some of them are: Kresimir Magdic, Jordan Kunicic, Frano Lederer, Delo Jusic, Luka Sorkocevic, Petar Osghian, Blagoje Bersa and Rade degl'Ivellio.

A special feature of the concert is the performance of Osghian's Suite Concertante for flute and strings by Dubrovnik Symphony Orchestra and flutist Dive Franetovic Kuselj, who has received numerous awards and recognitions. This work, which we do not have the opportunity to hear often, was first publicly performed in Dubrovnik in 1959, and the link for this occasion is the fact that the family of Peter Osghian came to Dubrovnik from Armenia, the homeland of Saint Blaise, at the time of the massacre over the Catholic population.

The concert is free.
