Stradun Classic Festival starts tonight

The second edition of the Stradun Classic Festival will start tonight at the atrium of the Rector's Palace.The Dubrovnik Symphony Orchestra will be conducted by one of Asia's most wanted conductors, Darrell Ang, and will feature soloists: Croatian mezzo-soprano Renata Pokupic and English-Dutch violinist Daniel Rowland. On the program is the world premiere of Ludomil Rogowski's "Bucolique" Violin Concerto, a selection of Biblical songs by Antonín Dvořák, "Idyll" by Blagoje Bersa and Papandopoulo's "Hommage à Sorkocevic. The concert starts at 9pm.

Artistic Director and Principal Conductor of the Sechuan Symphony Orchestra since December 2016, Darrell Ang is a regular guest at the Mariinsky Theater - with the support of Valery Gergiev - and conducts monthly symphony and opera performances in St. Petersburg and at the new Mariinsky (Primorsky stage) theater in Vladivostok. This season he returns to the NHK Symphony Orchestra, Württembergische Philharmonie Reutlingen, Queensland Symphony Orchestra, Singapore Symphony Orchestra, Haydn Bolzano and Trent Orchestra, Munich Radio Orchestra, Barcelona Symphony Orchestra. He is one of the most sought after and well-known young conductors in Asia, and is collaborating with the Dubrovnik Symphony Orchestra for the second time.

A well-known guest of distinguished concert halls, Renata Pokupic recently performed for the first time in Australia as Margareta (La Damnation de Faust, Melbourne Symphony Orchestra), then at Berlioz's Roméo et Juliette (Bergen Philharmonic Orchestra) and Dvorak's Stabat Mater (Collegium Vocale Gent) and DSO Berlin). 'Magnificent vocal magic ... beautiful warm creamy voice and expressive stage attitude that is both seductive and truly poignant ... Pokupic reigned sovereignly in the arias that explored the mature lower regions of castrato voice ... a serene and gracious stage phenomenon ... her rich, middle-of-the-register voice brought a radiant warmth to the role ... ' is only a small part of the superlatives that accompanied numerous performances by Renata Pokupic around the world, at opera houses and concert venues such as the Royal Opera House Covent Garden, BBC Proms, Washington National Opera, Melbourne Symphony Orchestra, Paris Chatelet and many others.

Violinist Daniel Rowland appears on the international scene as a very versatile, charismatic and adventurous performer. From 2007 to May 2019, Daniel was the first violin of the famous Brodsky Quartet. As a soloist, he has performed all over the world in renowned venues such as Concertgebouw in Amsterdam, Carnegie Hall in New York, the Royal Albert Hall in London, Glinka Hall in St. Petersburg, Symphony Hall in Birmingham and many others. This passionate chamber music lover has collaborated with distinguished musicians such as Ivry Gitlis, Polina Leschenko, Heinz Holliger, Dawn Upshaw, Alexander Lonquich, Priya Mitchell, Marcelo Nisinman, Michael Collins, Tunde Jegede, Nicolas Daniel. In Dubrovnik, he will play the violin concert "Bucolique" by L.M. Rogowski.
