This Saturday, June 22, marks the start of the tenth edition of the Midsummer Scene Festival. The program was announced at a press conference held at the Sponza Palace. Dubrovnik Mayor Mato Franković highlighted the festival's contribution to the city's cultural offerings, especially with its English-language performances.
"I dare say that no city in the Republic of Croatia has such a rich cultural scene and program. This period is particularly vibrant, beginning with the Midsummer Scene Festival and leading up to the 'Dubrovnik Summer Festival,' followed by the 'Dubrovnik in Late Summer' and 'Stradun Classic' festivals. I am pleased that this program is in English, as it fills a gap and is essential for our foreign visitors and guests. Now, besides the excellent music programs at other festivals, they have the opportunity to enjoy plays in English," stated Mayor Franković.
The mayor also congratulated and thanked the festival organizers for their decade of dedicated work, citing them as an example of successful synergy between private entrepreneurial spirit and public initiatives.
Darija Mikulandra Žanetić from Brilliant Events Dubrovnik announced that this year's main production is the musical "Around the World in 80 Days," performed in English. It will be staged at the Lovrjenac Fortress 15 times throughout the festival, with daily performances except on June 29, when a musical play about Marlene Dietrich, performed by Ksenija Prohaska, is scheduled at the Rector's Palace. The program also includes a concert dedicated to UNESCO Year by pianist and composer Matej Meštrović, also at the Rector's Palace.
The final performance of the musical "Around the World in 80 Days" will be on July 7, marking the closing of the Midsummer Scene Festival. Tickets can be purchased online or at the Dubrovnik Tourist Board offices at Pile Gate, with discounts available for locals.
Midsummer Scene is a project of the Dubrovnik Tourist Board and the City of Dubrovnik, produced by Brilliant Events Dubrovnik and Honey-Tongued Theatre Productions Ltd. London. It is realized in collaboration with Dubrovnik's cultural institutions and supported by sponsors and tourism entities in the city.
