Dubrovnik Midsummer Scene: Celebrating Ten Years of Cultural Magic!

Written by  Apr 17, 2024

The only Croatian theatre festival in English – the Dubrovnik Midsummer Scene, from June 22nd to July 7th, celebrates ten years of rich cultural offerings and international cooperation. This year's festival centrepiece is the spectacular musical adaptation of Jules Verne's classic "Around the World in 80 Days." Last year's world premiere of this hit captured the hearts of the audience, and this year, it returns to the Lovrijenac stage with even greater splendour and excitement. Visitors can expect plenty of entertainment, romance, and adventure with can-can dancers, hot air balloon rides, train accidents, elephants, all complemented by an irresistible dose of slapstick and infectious melodies.

The adaptation is by award-winning English playwright and director Sean Aita, while the music is by French actor and composer Leo Elso. The musical will be performed by an excellent ensemble of five actors who will take the audience on a journey around the world through over forty roles, music, singing, and acting in just ninety minutes.

In addition to this main production, which will be performed 15 times during the festival, visitors will have the opportunity to enjoy a diverse program at the Rector's Palace, including the musical show "Marlene Dietrich" performed by leading actress Ksenija Prohaska and the concert "The Stringbreaker" by renowned composer and pianist Matej Meštrović, dedicated to the UNESCO World Heritage Year in Dubrovnik.
