TASTED BY THE EDITOR - Captivating Heights at Panorama Restaurant & Bar

This establishment offers more than just the city's—and possibly beyond—most breath-taking view. The culinary experience, equally remarkable, blends creativity with local flavours, paying homage to Dubrovnik's rich gastronomic heritage.

It's been ages since I last dined at the Panorama Restaurant atop Srđ Mountain—far too long, in fact. As I settled into my seat, the menu nearly forgotten, I was captivated by the awe-inspiring view before me. A seamless expanse of blue stretched out, where sky met sea without distinction. The name says it all—Panorama. Undoubtedly, this restaurant boasts the city's—and perhaps beyond—most spectacular view. Yet, it wasn't just the view that left me amazed.

Culinary Excellence

Once I tore my gaze from the 360-degree panorama and perused the menu, I was equally impressed. Truthfully, with a view this stunning, the food could have taken a backseat and guests would still leave content. But that wasn't the case here; far from it. The chef has clearly poured creativity into crafting a menu that is both imaginative and deeply rooted in local flavors. I adore restaurants in Dubrovnik that pay homage to regional cuisine. "An experienced and creative chef, a culinary maestro drawing inspiration from authentic Dubrovnik recipes, ensures a complete gastronomic experience," the restaurant's website proudly declares. I couldn't agree more.

Now That's a View!

"What would you recommend?" I inquired of the friendly waiter. He enthusiastically detailed the menu highlights. He recommended as a starter the Dalmatian trilogy. The name intrigued me, it was a beautifully plated sea food adventure - octopus, marinated shrimps, marinated anchovies – really refreshing an excellent beginning to my meal. Right behind me I heard some American accents, I turned around and we quickly broke into conversation. It turned out that this couple were on their Honeymoon. In fact, this was the first day of their Honeymoon, and their first time outside of the US.

Highly Recommended

The food surpassed expectations; it was truly outstanding. The blend of local flair against the backdrop of the Adriatic's jewel somehow made it all the more special. Wine flowed, plates emptied, and in the background, the cable car whisked visitors up and down. In terms of value for the overall dining experience, it was certainly worth every euro. For main course I plumped for the Sea Bass fillet (which strangely enough so did my new American friends) and it was served with carrot and cauliflower cream, broccoli, bok choy, Jerusalem artichoke chips, just delicious. All in all, a truly impressive dining experience. I couldn't fathom why I had stayed away for so long. As Arnie famously said "I'll be back!"
