''By joining the Kinderhotels group which specializes in family holidays with children, Valamar has received additional recognition for investments in quality and portfolio development in the family tourism segment, that will enable branding of the Valamar Girandella Maro Resort hotel at Rabac, Istria which is to be opened in 2018'', said from Valamar a few days ago.
Furthermore, the Valamar Riviera company explained that Kinderhotels Europa Group is a marketing association, which gathers premium family hotels under the Austrian brand Kinderhotels in four European countries of Austria, Germany, Italy and Croatia. They also added that the hotel at Rabac would be the third hotel in Croatia joining this group, which gathers 48 European hotels.
Valamar expects that becoming part of the Kinderhotels Group will additionally contribute to repositioning of Rabac as one of the leading high quality holiday destinations in Croatia, the process that has already begun with the construction of two summer resorts at this Istrian town – the Valamar Girandella Resort and the Family Life Bellevue Resort.
It is interesting to note that the Valamar's investment is the biggest investment in Croatian tourism this year, which opens more than 300 new jobs and stimulates economic development of the local community.
Tesla opens supercharger in Croatia
Electric cars that passed through Vrgorac on their way to Dubrovnik on the 6th of June had a chance to charge their vehicles in the town.
The Tesla company has officially opened an electric charger station for electric cars in Vrgorac in the Split-Dalmatia County.
The investment in the world's fastest charging station or the so-called ''Supercharger'' is estimated at 2,5 million Kunas, whilst the charging time lasts shorter in comparison to conventional chargers.
On its website www.tesla.com, the company has officially included the town of Vrgorac in a list of world cities with Supercharger stations.
According to the website, the Tesla company has 861 Supercharger stations with 5,655 Superchargers around the world. Stations are strategically placed to minimize stops during long distance travel and are conveniently located near restaurants, shopping centres, and WiFi hot spots.
As far as Croatia is concerned, apart from Vrgorac, superchargers are also available in the town of Senj and at Dugopolje near the city of Split, whilst the supercharger stations in Otocac and Zagreb are to be opened by the end of 2017.
The newly elected Mayor of the City of Dubrovnik Mato Frankovic had a meeting today with the Founder of the Network for Animals Brian Davies and his associates to discuss the question of a systematic and quality care of abandoned animals in the Dubrovnik area.
Mayor Frankovic explained the plan of building a city shelter for animals to the leaders of this London-based international association.
The first step is to find an adequate location for the construction of a shelter and purchase of land.
- After that, project documentation will be developed, tenderers will be invited to tender and finally, the construction of a shelter that will meet all the conditions prescribed by the competent ministry of the Republic of Croatia and will have sufficient capacity will be built – Frankovic said.
Brain Davies and his associate David Barritt congratulated Mayor Frankovic for being elected on the latest elections. They expressed readiness to provide logistical assistance and other expertise in the realization of this project, based on their experience in animal rights protection.
Another busy day of cruise ships in Dubrovnik as long delays form
Once again Dubrovnik is under siege as thousands of cruise ship passengers have descended on the city today. The roads are at breaking point as long tailbacks caused by the increase in bus, coach and taxis has made the city’s roads resemble a huge car park.
The height of the cruise ship season is truly upon us. Yesterday around 9,000 passengers arrived in the city and today three mega cruise ships, including MSC Poesia and Mein Schiff, have arrived carrying just over 5,000 passengers.
The start of the weekend will also be a busy one with another 5,000 passengers expected on Saturday on two cruise ships. Respite will come on Sunday when only one mini-cruise ship will arrive in Dubrovnik, so Sunday will be a good opportunity to visit the historic Old City and avoid the cruise ship crush.
The Guardian lists the top ten restaurants in Zagreb
The renowned British daily newspaper The Guardian has recently published an article about top 10 restaurants and bistros in Zagreb according to their choice.
At the end of April, the British low-cost air carrier Monarch Airlines launched new direct flights from Manchester and London to Zagreb, thus The Guardian was inspired to write an article about a gourmet offer in the Croatian capital.
‘’Croatia’s capital is bursting with good-value places to eat and drink. And new flights from the UK have made getting there cheaper too’’, wrote The Guardian.
Monarch new flights and the article have brought Zagreb even closer to the UK and their citizens, whilst a various and excellent offer of restaurants and bistros in the capital will surely attract not only British but tourists coming from other world countries considering the reputation of the famous British newspaper.

Stjepan Hauser from 2Cellos enjoys Dubrovnik
Stjepan Hauser, famous Croatian cellist and part of 2Cellos (with Luka Sulic) is enjoying his time in Dubrovnik. He posted a photo on his official Instagram account with a caption ‘’Croatia, paradise on earth’’.
And it surely looks like paradise! Photo was obviously taken on the island of Lokrum, with amazing blue skies, sea and the Old City of Dubrovnik behind his back. In three hours it got almost 4000 likes and is a great promotion for our City.
It’s not a secret that guys from 2Cellos adore Dubrovnik – apart for making concerts for Dubrovnik audience, they also made a couple of videos in the Old City. Who knows what they are preparing for us next!

Croatian fair of traditional products that goes by the name ‘’Croatian village products’’ was opened today at Marin Drzic Square, in front of the Hotel Tirena.The fair is held with the support of the Valamar Riviera and Dubrovnik Tourist Board and lasts until Sunday, June 11th, from 9 am to 9 pm.
‘’Croatian village products’’ is a specialized trade show where traditional products of the Croatian village are displayed, promoted and sold - food, beverages, handicrafts and souvenirs with the aim of fostering the culture and tradition of the Croatian village and providing small farms with the opportunity to promote and sell their original products.
Around 9000 cruise ship passengers in Dubrovnik today
Six cruise ships bring nearly 9000 guests in Dubrovnik today, according to the data of the Port of Dubrovnik. Over 107 thousand passengers are expected during the month of June.
Today, over 8600 tourists will get off their cruise ships in the Port of Gruz and a bit more than 250 in the Old Town Port.
In the early morning ‘Thomson Spirit’ arrived with 1400 passengers. Around 7 am, ‘’Le Lyrial’’ brought 264 new guests in the Old Port. At the same time, ‘’AIDAblu’’ with 2500 passengers arrived in Gruz, while an hour later ‘’Celebrity Consellation’’ arrived with 2,038 travellers. ‘’MSC Simfonia’’ brought 2679 passengers around noon and at 3 pm ‘’Poseidon’’ is announced, but without the number of expected passengers.

VIDEO - Walking on a wire over the Red Lake
Red Lake near Imotski does not cease to amaze and attract people from all around the globe.
A month ago, a French speleologist and diver Frederic Swierczynski went to the bottom of the lake and became the first man in the history to reach the depth of 245 metres.
Swierczynski was followed by a group of young adventurers from Germany and Austria who decided to perform a spectacular walking on a wire over the surface of Red Lake a few days ago.
Six courageous Austrians from the acrobatic group Tiroliners were walking on two centimetres thick wire in three lengths of 100, 240 and 400 metres that were stretched above the lake.
Despite all kinds of security measures, this spectacle provoked admiration and awe of those who were watching the group’s balancing skills high above the lake’s surface.
Red Lake is a famous Croatian attraction. It is a sinkhole, containing a karst lake. It is well known for its numerous caves and remarkably high cliffs, reaching over 241 metres above normal water level and continuing below the water level. The total explored depth of this sinkhole is approximately 530 metres with a volume of roughly 25–30 million cubic meters, which makes it the third largest sinkhole in the world. The sinkhole is named after the reddish-brown colour of the surrounding cliffs, coloured by iron oxides.
Dubrovnik to host five Nobel prize winners
Dubrovnik will be the host of one of the most important international scientific events in 2017, 10th ISABS conference – Kongres Magazine reports. Conference on Forensic and Anthropologic Genetic and Mayo Clinic Lectures in Individualized Medicine will be held from 19th to 24th of June in Hotel Dubrovnik Palace.
Around 500 participants are expected and five of them are Nobel prize winners from the area of chemistry and medicine. More than 60 speakers will be the part of this conference, all from most renowned universities and research centers, such as the Mayo Clinic, Harvard Medical School, MIT, Duke University, National Institutes of Health-NIH, University of Cambridge, etc.
International Society for Applied Biological Sciences (ISABS) is a non-profit organization founded to promote, enhance and extend research, development and education in molecular biology as applied to clinical and molecular medicine, focusing on, but not limited to, molecular genetics, genomics, proteomics, forensic and anthropological genetics, and biotechnology.
